El Cerrito Mayor Quinto’s 2022 campaign committee received, spent thousands over the past year
Most of us might assume a campaign committee is terminated once the election is over, and that is often the case. The latest financial disclosure statements available on the city website show that the campaign committees of Council Members William Ktsanes, Rebecca Saltzman, and Carolyn Wysinger (for 2022) have all been terminated. There is no termination paperwork for “Lisa Motoyama for City Council 2024,” but the documents on file show little activity by that committee since the 2024 election.
Gabriel Quinto for El Cerrito City Council 2022, however, was still active as of the latest documents on file with the city. A campaign disclosure statement filed July 30 for the committee covering the first half of 2026 shows a balance of $4,323 as of Jan. 1. Most of that has been spent, leaving a balance of $39 as of June 30.
The bulk of the money was donated to candidates throughout the state for a variety of offices. Donations ranged from $100 to $550.
Recipients include Rob Bonta for State Attorney General, Scott Wiener for Congress, Harris Mojadedi for Assembly, John Erickson for State Senate, Melissa Hernandez for Congress, Jaron Brandon for Tuolumne Supervisor, Ken Carlson for Supervisor 2022, Holli Thier for Assembly, Vince Robb for County Assessor, Barbara Lee for Oakland Mayor, Juan Camacho for State Senate, Betty Yee for Governor 2026, Eli Beckman for Assembly, Xavier Becerra for California Governor, Ahmad Anderson for Richmond Mayor, Fiona Ma for Lt Governor, and Bay Area Jewish Action in Support of Ahmad Anderson for Richmond Mayor.
The twice-yearly Fair Political Practices Commission documents filed since the committee was formed in June of 2022 show donations to other candidates since its early days, with a $100 donation to Marilyn Ezzy Ashcroft for Alameda Mayor June 27, 2022 and $250 on June 30, 2022 to Shawn Kumagai for Assembly 2022 (also Alameda County).
Contributions to the committee continued after the November 2022 City Council election, from individuals, political committees, and a union. The statement covering the second half of 2025 included contributions of $3,000 from Buffy Wicks for Assembly, $3,400 from Fiona Ma for Lieutenant Governor for the entire year of 2025, and $1,000 from Gladhill Partners Inc.
Quinto has been on the City Council since 2014 and is the 2025-26 president of the League of California Cities. His term on the El Cerrito City Council expires this year. He has taken out papers to run for reelection.
